Overview

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for one-year Postdoctoral Research Scholarships in the College of Law and Management Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal. The successful applicants will be expected to engage in full-time postdoctoral studies on an approved research programme under the supervision of a member of the academic staff in one of the Schools of the College (the School of Law; the School of Management, IT and Governance; the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance; or the Graduate School of Business and Leadership). These positions are renewable for a second year, subject to satisfactory progress. Successful postdoctoral research scholars are typically based at UKZN for the duration of the scholarship.

Details about specific host-led projects that colleagues require postdoctoral research fellows for can be found below. In addition, applications will be accepted from candidates who are seeking hosts to guide projects proposed by the postdoctoral applicants.

Minimum requirements

  • A doctoral degree, relevant to the disciplines in the College of Law and Management Studies, obtained in the last five years
  • Candidates between 45 – 50 years of age may be considered with motivation
  • Research track record as evidenced by at least one peer-reviewed DHET-listed journal articles already published in the last three years, one as the first author
  • A full curriculum vitae, including a list of publications.
  • A SAQA certificate (if doctoral degree was obtained outside South Africa).
  • A synopsis of doctoral research, detailing the research already published and that which is still in progress for publication.
  • For host-led projects, a letter of motivation indicating your experience and suitability for the project is required.
  • For candidates proposing their own project, a one-page proposal outlining the research area and the proposed project(s) to be undertaken during the postdoctoral appointment is required.
  • The application form with pages 1 & 2 completed.

Preference will be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged groups.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview with the selection panel.

Should you not receive an interview invitation by Friday 18 October 2024 please consider your application unsuccessful, no correspondence will be entered into in this respect.
